Henry Webster abt. 1799-1813
Margaret Franks b. about 1785
Henry Webster was born in about 1799 in Virginia. He married Margaret Franks in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY on 25 December 1800 (or 1802). She was born about 1785, the daughter of John Martin Franks and Elizabeth Lail.[1]
Their known children are:
i. John Webster (b. about 1805) m. Mary Kinchloe
ii. William Webster (b. about 1806
Henry enlisted in the War of 1812 in Fayette Co., KY on March 29, 1818 for a term of six months. He was a Private in Capt. Archibald Morrison's Company of Infantry, 13th Regiment of Kentucky Militia. He was with Col. William Dudley at the Battle of Dudley's Defeat and was taken prisoner May 5, 1813. Henry was paroled and landed at the mouth of the Huron River about May 14.
Upon his return to Kentucky from the war, Henry died somewhere in the state of Ohio in June 1813. His estate appraisal is recorded in Will Book C, October 1813, Fayette Co., KY.
After Henry's death, Margaret married David Burns on 28 Aug 1816 in Fayette Co., KY.
Margaret made application in Grant Co., KY on 7 Apr 1851 for bounty land to which she believed she was entitled, according to an act passed 28 Sept 1850 which granted bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who had been engaged in the military service of the United States. She stated on the application that she married Henry Webster in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY, December 25, 1800. She further stated that the license authorizing their marriage was issued from and returned to the office of the Clerk of the County Court of Fayette Co., KY, which office, together with the records thereof, was destroyed by fire in 1803. She later stated on the application that she and Henry Webster were married in Lexington on December 25, 1802. |

John Webster (b. about 1805)
Mary ("Polly") Kinchloe (b. about 1805, d. before 1870)
John Webster was born about 1805 in Fayette Co., KY, the son of Henry Webster and Margaret Franks. He married on 18 September 1828, Mary ("Polly") Kinchloe who was born about 1805.[2] [3]
They had one known child:
i. Sarah Elizabeth Webster (1831-1913) m. Fountain R. Collins
The 1830 Grant Co., KY census, p. 269, although extremely light and difficult to read, has an entry for John Webster, a male 20-30, one female 20-30, and one female under 5.
John filed for divorce on 24 November 1833 in Grant County, claiming Polly had been unfaithful to him, that she was "openly living with Samuel Hutton." The divorce was granted in August Term of the Grant County Court in 1834.[4]
Following the divorce, John Webster married Elizabeth, and they had four children. After the third child's birth they moved to Crawford County, Indiana.[5]
It appears that Mary Kinchloe Webster and Samuel Hutton were married soon after Mary's divorce was final.
The family appears in the 1840 Grant Co., KY census, p. 89, as follows:
HUTTON, Samuel, age 33 (male 30-40) Mary (female 30-40) Margaret 10 (female 10-15) (Sam's dtr by first marriage) Sarah 9 (female 5-10) Mary's dtr by first marriage) [there should be two more children, Joannah 5 and William 4]
The family appears in the 1850 and 1860 Grant Co., KY census as follows:
Samuel Hutton, 43 in 1850, 52 in 1860 Mary 45, 55 Margaret 20 in 1850, probably Samuel's daughter by first marriage, does not appear with family in 1860 Sarah 17 (if born in 1831 she should be about 19 in 1850; by 1860 she was married to Fountain Collins) Johanna 15, 25[6] (this was probably Samuel and Mary's first child together, born in 1835) William J. 14, 23[7] Mary F. 17 (should probably be 11 in 1850), 21[8] John S. 7, 18[9] Benjamin F. 5, 15[10] James R. 2, 12 Arabelle J., 9 in 1860
Growing up in this family, Sarah probably used her stepfather's name of Hutton, as on her death certificate, the informant W. J. Hutton (probably her brother William) gave her maiden name as Sarah Hutton. However, she gave her name as Sarah E. Webster when she married Fountain Collins.
It appears that Mary Kinchloe Webster Hutton died before 1870.
The 1870 Grant Co., KY census, p. 529, shows the family as follows:
HUTTON, Samuel 62 Matilda 52 (third wife?) James 22 (Sam & Mary's son) |
