Sheryl Neal Slaughter wrote to me in January 2001: "I am a direct granddaughter of Dudley Barnett. In fact, I have his bible in my possession right now. We also have another cousin in-law, Nancy Barnett of Ironton, OH, working on this line. I visited with her just before Christmas. She loaned me the Bible. Have been working on this line for more than 20 years and have been to Jessamine, Mercer, and Garrard Counties and have extracted everything I could find."
In her next email she wrote about the Barnett bible: “It is in terrible condition! It was rescued from the eaves of someone's attic and had been rained on and is crumbled and brittle. I'm trying to get caught up enough around here to take it to the Ky Historical Society for help in bringing out some of the faded print and turning some of the pages. Fortunately, the page of Dudley's children is pretty readable."
She provided the names and birthdates of all of the children, possibly recorded in Francis Camron Barnett's handwriting. "The next column is in a faded purple ink which will require special light to bring out, but it appears to be marriage records for the above children."
As of April 2003, Sheryl has posted pages of this Bible on the Barnett family website. Bless her heart!
