J Lee and Lottie Ransdell 1980

J Lee Ransdell was born 14 April 1901 in Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., KY, the fifth of six sons of Joseph Jackson Ransdell and Laura Bell Terhune Ransdell.  He married Lottie Teater on December 2, 1921.  She was the daughter of Zenah Bain Teater  and Hannah Ellen Cloyd Teater[1].

They moved to Indiana in the 1940s.

J Lee and Lottie had five children.

During his lifetime J Lee worked as a farmer, with the Kentucky Department of Highways, in construction, as an agent with the Commonwealth Life Insurance Company, and for the City of Indianapolis in purchasing and office supply.  Lottie sewed parachutes for Irvine Air Chute, and sewed cushions for furniture at the Madison Furniture Company.  They were lifelong members of the Christian Church and attended services regularly.

"Never an unkind word to anyone" is how their son remembered both of his parents.  J Lee was 5'11" tall, a friendly and outgoing man who "never met a stranger," according to their son and his sister Cleita.  He enjoyed good health, liked to read and take care of his house and yard.  Both J Lee and Lottie were described as conservative, never wasting anything.  Lottie was a talented seamstress, a wonderful cook, and a neat housekeeper.  Their son wrote of his parents, "Dad was a loving father, always took pride in his children and grandchildren.  He was good to Mother and never said an unkind word.  Mother also had great love for her children, showed pride in all their accomplishments.  She never spoke an unkind word to anyone."

I have fond personal memories of Aunt Lottie, for she was the nice lady who came to the Ransdell reunion every year with lots of candy and chewing gum for all the kids.  Also, I remember my mother loved going to visit her in Indianapolis, and she would always tell me about the beautiful quilts Lottie made – the most beautiful my mother had ever seen in her life, she always said.

J Lee died December 24, 1985, in Muncie, Indiana, and is buried in the Bohon Christian Church Cemetery near Harrodsburg, KY.

Lottie died January 17, 1988 in Muncie, Indiana, and is also buried in the Bohon Christian Church Cemetery near Harrodsburg, KY.
